Draft law on prevention and protection from domestic violence discussed in Kyrgyzstan

Dinara Ashimova said women do not find support from the state and they are under pressure from society.

On June 3, parliamentarians of the Jogorku Kenesh Sharapatkan Mazhitova, Dinara Ashimova, Gulya Kozhokulova and Gulsharkan Kultayeva participated in discussing the draft law that introduces amendments to some legislative acts on prevention and protection from domestic violence, the press office of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The lawyers provided a detailed overview of amendments to the legislative acts of the Kyrgyz Republic of prevention and protection from domestic violence.

A parliamentarian of the Jogorku Kenesh, the initiator of amendments to the law Dinara Ashimova noted that women do not find support from the state and are under pressure from society, manipulated by relatives and have no financial opportunities. In this regard, the decision to draft this law was taken.

UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan Louise Chamberlain said the draft law is being widely discussed among civil society organisations and experts from international and government agencies.
