Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Yoshimasa Hayashi discuss Uzbekistan-Japan cooperation

The Government of Japan fully supports the on-going reform strategies in New Uzbekistan.

On April 29, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Yoshimasa Hayashi during his official visit in Uzbekistan. The interlocutors discussed the objectives of multifaceted cooperation between the countries and the interregional agenda. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan noted that the Government of Japan fully supports the on-going strategic reforms in New Uzbekistan, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to Centralasia.news.

This year, Uzbekistan and Japan are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of strategic partnerships. In this context, the interlocutors noted the visit of President Mirziyoyev to Japan in 2019, which gave the two countries a strong impetus to boost cooperation in a wide range of areas, in particular bilateral projects increased in number. Japanese companies invest in various sectors of Uzbekistan, in particular the power, tourism and high-tech industries. Bilateral trade has increased significantly. The Uzbekistan-Japan educational project – the Digital University successfully functions in the capital of Uzbekistan.

The President of Uzbekistan invited Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan to discuss further interaction of the two countries.

The interlocutors discussed interaction in the Central Asia+Japan format and Afghan problem.
