New thermal power plant put into operation in Tashkent Region

The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkey took part in the opening ceremony of the new energy facility.

On March 30, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is on his official visit to Uzbekistan, took part in the opening ceremony of a thermal power plant in Tashkent Region and the ground-breaking ceremony of a thermal power plant in Syrdarya Region, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The 240 MW power plant in Kibray district of Tashkent Region was built jointly with the Turkish company Cengiz Enerji. It will generate up to 2 billion KWh per year and supply electricity to neighbouring settlements.

Turkey is taking an active part in modernising Uzbekistan’s energy infrastructure. Over the past year, 5 major power plant projects have been implemented in the country jointly with Turkish companies, and by 2026, 20 projects worth a total of US$12 billion are to be implemented in Uzbekistan through public-private partnership.

The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkey put the new power plant into operation by pressing a symbolic button. They also launched the construction of a 220 MW power plant in Khavast district of Syrdarya Region that will generate 1.7 billion KWh per year.
