On March 12, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, together with his mother Ogulabat-eje, voted in the presidential election. They did it at the polling station at secondary school No. 68 located in the capital of the country. It was reported by the state news agency «TASS».
After that, the leader of Turkmenistan spoke to journalists and members of the election commission. According to him, the relevant event is historic.
The president stressed that the election is held democratically. Voting is based on openness and equal rights, he added. Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the progressive development of Turkmenistan will not stop.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister for Finance and Economy Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is running for the post of the president of the country, also gave his vote in the presidential election. In total, the Central Election Commission registered 9 candidates.
Voting started at 7 am and ended at 7 pm. In total, the CEC registered 3,435,950 voters. More than 97% had voted by 7 p.m.
