President Mirziyoyev instructs to provide jobs for students

Employment opportunities for university students was the theme under discussion at a meeting chaired by the leader of Uzbekistan.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting via videoconference on employment opportunities for students of higher educational institutions, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

On the instructions of the leader of Uzbekistan, the surveys of the possibility of combining study and employment were conducted among university students in Uzbekistan. According to the survey results, about 100,000 students (out of 510,000 of the total number of students in the country) expressed a wish to take on a part-time job. This number includes students from low-income families, people with disabilities and orphans.

Currently, there are around 105,000 job vacancies available for students in the labour market of Uzbekistan, mainly in the spheres of education, services, industry, healthcare, construction and communications.

The President said the high-ranking officials should provide jobs for students who want to combine work and study. To this end, a special republican commission chaired by the Prime Minister will be set up. The commission will be responsible for conducting analysis of available job vacancies and providing employment to at least 30 percent of the total number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students in each region. It is planned to offer graduating students paid internship jobs.

Moreover, the university managers should establish cooperation with the private sector of the national economy that would provide jobs for graduating students.

The President also instructed to set up employment centres and co-working centres at each university and ensure that students would render paid education services. It is planned to allocate about 100 billion soums in loans to implement student employment projects.
