President of Kyrgyzstan returns to work after short-term vacation

Sadyr Japarov took a vacation on January 10 when the protests were taking place in neighbouring Kazakhstan.

On January 17, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov returned to work after a short-term vacation. The President took a vacation on January 10 when the protests were taking place in neighbouring Kazakhstan, and the CSTO leaders held an extraordinary meeting via videoconference, the press office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic reported to CentralAsia.news.

According to the President’s Administration, President Japarov received detailed information and updates on the situation in Kyrgyzstan and the region during his vacation. He also kept in touch with the executive body of state power and the ministers.

The officials did not explain why the leader of Kyrgyzstan had taken a short-term vacation amid the destabilizing situation in the neighbouring country. Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov attended the CSTO Summit instead of Japarov.

Before the President of Kyrgyzstan took a vacation, Kazakh TV had showed a video with one of the detainees saying he has been paid for participating in the riots. He was identified as a jazz musician from the Kyrgyz Republic Vikram Ruzakhunov. The Kyrgyz authorities said he was not a terrorist, and he was released from custody.
