Tokayev presents awards and military ranks

The President said the country had created the strong defensive system over the years of independence thanks to the first president Nursultan Nazarbayev.

On May 6, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev conferred the military ranks and awarded the orders and medals to the best military and law enforcement officers. The solemn ceremony marked the Day of the Defenders of the Fatherland and the Victory Day, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

The highest military ranks of lieutenant general and major general were conferred to the best representatives of the ‘male profession’. The Orders Dank, Aibyn and Kurmet and the Medals Erligi Ushin and Zhaungerlik Erligi Ushin were awarded.

Addressing the awardees, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev emphasised that territorial integrity, security and stability were the supreme values of sovereignty. The President added that the strong defensive system and the powerful army had been created and military professionals had been brought up over the years of independence through the efforts of the first president Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Talking about the modern challenges, the leader of Kazakhstan said the friction between the mega-powers in today’s world was comparable to that during the Cold War.

“Contradictions arise more often in the CIS states and the countries bordering Kazakhstan. New disputes are heating up, and this situation is giving cause for concern. In this regard, iron discipline should reign in national defence, and the army and military and law enforcement agencies must always be ready to respond to external threats,” Tokayev emphasised.
