Dushanbe calls on Asian countries to respond adequately to the pandemic

Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhriddin made this statement at the 17th Asia Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting.

On January 21, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin took part in the 17th Asia Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting. The participants had discussed the joint efforts to fight COVID-19 and the economic impact of the pandemic, the press office of the Ministry reported.

The 17th ACD Ministerial Meeting under the theme “The New Normal and Safe and Healthy Tourism” was held virtually. The delegations from 35 countries attended the event, organised by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Muhriddin called on his counterparts to act in an adequate and coordinated way to respond to the existing and emerging threats. The officials deliberated on further cooperation in the fields of economy, health care and tourism.

Particular attention was paid to the measures to combat the coronavirus. In this regard, the importance of partnerships with the private sector and the need to ensure unfettered access to coronavirus vaccines were highlighted. The participants in the 17th ACD Ministerial Meeting adopted the Ankara Declaration.

The Asia Cooperation Dialogue is an intergovernmental organisation created in 2002 to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level.
