According to the President of Russia, relations between the two countries are based on alliance and are of strategic importance.
On January 11, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, as part of a telegram, congratulated Sadyr Japarov on winning the presidential election in Kyrgyzstan. Putin commended the relations between the two states based on the alliance, as reported by the press office of the Russian leader.
Putin wished his newly-minted colleague success, good health, and well-being.
It must be added that the election of the head of state was held after mass protests in early October 2020 and the resignation of ex-President Sooronbai Jeenbekov on January 10, 2021. Sadyr Japarov won the first round. He secured the support of 79% of voters. The final turnout was 39,75%.
According to the head of the CIS observer mission Vasily Volkov, the Kyrgyz authorities have made significant efforts to hold an open and transparent election. In their reports, CIS observers noted a few violations that, according to the mission, could not have an impact on the final result of the political event.
