Heads of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan discuss problem of Aral Sea and pandemic

Berdimuhamedov underlined that natural factors can cause the spread of various infections.

On July 24, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the problem of the coronavirus pandemic and the drying up of the Aral Sea. The issue was raised as part of a telephone conversation. Berdimuhamedov also congratulated the colleague on his birthday. It was reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

The heads of the states highlighted the effectiveness of intergovernmental cooperation in the fight against a coronavirus. Special attention was attached to the implementation of sanitary and quarantine measures.

The presidents noted that the drying up of the Aral Sea had a negative impact on the climate, ecology, and health of people who live in the Aral Sea region. Berdimuhamedov marked that natural factors can cause the spread of various infections.

Mirziyoyev agreed with the Turkmen leader and said that saxaul is planted at the bottom of the dried sea in Uzbekistan. Berdimuhamedov said that a special tree belt was created in the Dashoguz province. According to him, it serves as a filter for air masses coming from the Aral Sea.

The president of Turkmenistan also congratulated his colleague on the 63rd birthday. He underlined that it is the age of the Prophet Muhammad.

It must be added that Berdimuhamedov also turned 63 years old on June 29, 2020.

To date, Turkmenistan has a favorable epidemiological situation. The WHO mission confirmed it during a 10-day visit to the country. In Uzbekistan, the number of COVID-19 cases, as of July 24, has reached 19 653 people.
