Tajikistan and European Investment Bank forge energy cooperation

The parties discussed the prospects for attracting investors in the hydropower sector.

The delegation of Tajikistan held business talks with President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Nadia Calviño on the prospects of cooperation in the energy sector, the press office of the National Bank of Tajikistan reported.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kholikzoda Khokim expressed gratitude to the EIB President for directing accelerated investment towards the development of national and international projects in Tajikistan. He mentioned the CASA-1000 project that is of tremendous importance for energy development of Central and South Asia.

Exchanging views, the parties considered various options to attract investors in Tajikistan’s hydropower sector. The issue of investment in the Rogun hydropower plant (HPP) was addressed.

The members of the Tajik delegation emphasised that effective measures have been taken to bring construction works in line with international standards. The Government of the Republic continues to cooperate with partners in this area. They noted that the European Investment Bank can be a key implementing partner of Tajikistan under the Rogun hydropower plant project.
