Floods in Kazakhstan are declining

Equipment and specialists are being redeployed to the regions with the highest flood risk.

When flying over the territory of West Kazakhstan Region, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev instructed the Ministry of Emergency Situations to redeploy specialists and equipment from the regions where the floods had reached their peak to the settlements along the Zhaiyk River to the border with Atyrau Region.

Flood waters flowing from Orenburg (Russia) into the Zhaiyk River are declining, the press office of the Office of the Prime Minister reports. The situation in Ozernoye, Rubezhinskoye and Yanvartsevo villages of Baiterek district in West Kazakhstan Region is returning to normal.

It is forecast that peak flood flows in West Kazakhstan Region will pass without sudden water surges.

However, the severe flood situation remains in Uralsk. Over 6,000 specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Defence, including those who arrived from other regions, will remain in the city until the flooding threat is lifted. Another 200 military servants are expected to arrive. 100 specialists from the Ministry of Defence are working in three shifts to consolidate the banks of the Shagan River in Michurino village. Soldiers and rescue specialists from Aktobe, Astana and Almaty are building dams in other microdistricts.
