On October 26, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic China Hu Heping, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili and Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov took part in a trilateral meeting in Tashkent. The meeting focused on promoting cooperation in tourism among China, Uzbekistan and the World Tourism Organization, the press office of the Government of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.
Zurab Pololikashvili suggested that Chinese teachers and specialists visit the International Academy of Tourism in Samarkand. He also proposed to develop new Silk Road Tourism projects jointly with the UNWTO Thematic Office in Samarkand. Aziz Abdukhakimov supported this initiative of Pololikashvili and Hu Heping, noting that Uzbekistan has become an important partner of China in the tourism sector.
One of the issues under discussion was the inclusion of the tourist destinations in Uzbekistan in the International Tourism Alliance of Silk Road Cities. The parties discussed the prospects for developing and enhancing the tourism potential of Uzbekistan at the international level.
