Chinese investments in Uzbekistan have surged fivefold

It was noted that bilateral trade has increased impressively by 36%.

On October 17, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping in Beijing. The talks focused on boosting bilateral cooperation and strengthening strategic partnerships between the two countries. The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with rising investments from China in Uzbekistan, which have increased fivefold in recent years, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

Bilateral trade has increased significantly, showing an increase of 36%. Uzbekistan-China trade is expected to reach $10 billion by the end of the year and grow to $20 billion in the next 5 years.

The interlocutors noted that jointly with Chinese companies and financial institutions, Uzbekistan is implementing several ambitious investment projects in various industries, including high technology, alternative energy, chemical industry, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, electrical engineering and infrastructure modernization.

The parties were interested in developing high-tech projects. Particular attention was paid to fruitful partnerships with the major Chinese banks and the Silk Road Fund.

The emphasis was placed on the intensification of interregional contacts. This year, the delegations of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu and Jiangxi have visited Uzbekistan.
