The prospects of cooperation in environmental protection were discussed at a meeting between Minister of Ecology of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and Head of the European Union Delegation to Uzbekistan Charlotte Adriaen. Abdukhakimov expressed hope for the speedy implementation of joint projects worth 4 million euros. The parties expressed readiness to promote environmental initiatives and cooperate in environmental protection, the press office of the Government of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.
Particular attention was paid to the importance of Uzbekistan’s transition to a green economy and the introduction of innovative clean energy projects. Abdukhakimov highlighted the importance of combating climate change and expressed hope for the successful implementation of joint initiatives with the European Union worth 4 million euros.
The talks focused on the role of environmental education and culture in the development of the country. The parties recognised the need to promote environmental education and culture in Uzbekistan.
Abdukhakimov thanked the European Union for supporting the Yashil Makon (Green House) Initiative that envisages planting 27,000 trees in Karakalpakstan and at school 42 in Angren town. The parties noted the importance and success of the field visit of the European Union Delegation to Angren and Yangiabad in Tashkent Region when the facilities on the abandoned uranium mines were being demolished there.
