Kazakhstan restricts circulation of cars with foreign number plates from September 1

The Ministry of Internal Affairs considers this measure necessary, and the drivers were given enough time to legalise a vehicle.

On September 1, Kazakhstan will enforce restrictions on the circulation of cars with foreign number plates. This measure will affect those drivers who failed to go through the legalization procedure. The applications for the legalization of foreign cars were closed in July, MIR 24 reports.

One of the compelling arguments in favour of this measure is that the lack of registration hinders the work of law enforcement agencies and road services. Unregistered violators are almost impossible to trace. To date, about 15,000 owners of the cars with foreign number plates have got a temporary vehicle registration.

An official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Kaisar Sultanbaev said this measure was announced a year ago to give car owners enough time to legalize a vehicle. He stressed that after September 1, measures will be taken against violators in accordance with the law. This means that the owners of unregistered cars will be held accountable. The Ministry of Internal Affairs cannot indefinitely allow the circulation of unregistered vehicles.
