Uzbekistan approves ban on keeping wild animals at home

The Cabinet of Ministers will compile the list after the President of the Republic signs the document.

The new law, approved by the senators of Uzbekistan and pending signature by President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev, is aimed at solving the problem of walking dangerous wild animals in public places. This situation is becoming increasingly alarming for the people of the country, and the new law is to change this situation, Podrobno.uz reports. 

In accordance with the new law, the Government will compile the list of wild animals prohibited from keeping by individuals and legal entities. According to the senators, walking predatory and poisonous animals in public places pose a serious threat to the life and health of citizens and can lead to unforeseen consequences.

The new law also prescribes the requirements for keeping wild animals in artificial habitats or in captivity. The requirements for keeping predatory and poisonous animals in zoos, terrariums, circuses, oceanariums, dolphinariums, wildlife nurseries, as well as at research and educational institutions responsible for keeping such animals will be regulated.
