Putin comments on unveiling of monument to Alexander Nevskiy in Alma-Ata

The monument sprang up in front of the Temple of the Prince Alexander Nevskiy.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin congratulated the participants of the unveiling ceremony of the monument to Prince Alexander Nevskiy in Alma-Ata, RIA Novosti reports. He called it a significant event in the spiritual and cultural life of Kazakhstan and Russia.

The monument was unveiled last week on the square in front of the Temple of the Prince Alexander Nevskiy. The monument features a bronze statue of Prince Alexander, mounted on a horse and holding the miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God in his hands.

Putin congratulated those present on the great event in the spiritual and cultural life of Kazakhstan and Russia, emphasising that the historical memory about the great ruler of Rus has not fade away over many centuries.

«We admire his courage and wisdom, his sacrificial deeds accomplished for the good of our native land, we honour him as the guardian of faith and national unity,» Vladimir Putin said in his welcome address, which was read out by Aide to the RF President  Vladimir Medinskiy.
