Meredov and Lavrov signed Cooperation Program for 2023-2024

The officials reviewed the prospects of bilateral cooperation in priority areas.

On December 6, as part of his official visit to Russia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the head of the MFA of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov. The parties discussed the state and the prospects of bilateral partnership. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the MFA.

— Turkmenistan is our close friend and strategic partner. We give special attention to fostering bilateral relations and our cooperation on regional and international affairs. The two presidents have set the tone for cooperation. In 2022 alone, the leaders of our two countries have met five times, — the Russian diplomat said, while opening the meeting.

The interlocutors paid attention to cooperation in the foreign policy arena, in particular, in maintaining and strengthening regional and global security, interaction on the Caspian and Aral Sea issues, joint struggle against challenges and threats.

The ministers also noted the importance of developing cultural and humanitarian ties. Along with this, Lavrov commended Turkmenistan’s caring attitude to the Russian language and culture. The official mentioned with gratitude the decision to construct a new building of the Russian Drama Theatre in Ashgabat and establish a Russia-Turkmenistan university.

The ministers reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further deepening interaction that meets the interests of states and contributes to ensuring peace, stability and development on a regional and global scale.

Following the results of the negotiations, the Cooperation Program between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation for 2023-2024 was signed.
