Turkmen officials discuss potential of office of ombudsman

The topic was raised during the seminar organized by the UNDP.

A seminar on the issues of observance of human rights by state law enforcement agencies and the work of the office of the ombudsman was held in Turkmenistan. The event was held by the office of the United Nations Development Program. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan.

The seminar was organized within the framework of the project «Improving the institutional capacity of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan». Its main goal is to modernize the system of protection, promotion and implementation of human rights in the Central Asian country through reforms in local legislation.

The event was attended by representatives of migration departments, judicial authorities, Turkmen and international experts. They discussed issues of the independence of the courts, the importance of lawyers and officials in the framework of law enforcement, and important aspects of the interaction of the office of the ombudsman with law enforcement agencies.

The officials and experts underlined the importance of strengthening partnerships with international organizations.
