Kyrgyzstan to take over CIS Chairmanship in 2023 in Astana

Key aspects of further cooperation within the CIS are to be discussed at the meeting.

On October 14, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov arrived at the Astana Congress Centre to participate in the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS Member States. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev greeted the CIS leaders who had arrived to attend the event, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

After the welcoming and photographing ceremony, the heads of state held a meeting in a narrow format.

Key aspects of interaction within the Commonwealth will be discussed and a number of documents aimed at promoting and enhancing cooperation among the CIS Member States will be considered and adopted.

The participants are expected to take a decision to transfer the CIS Chairmanship in 2023 to Kyrgyzstan and hold the next meeting of the Council in Bishkek next year.

The day before, the Kyrgyz leader addressed the 6th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). Japarov informed his counterparts about the measures taken in the country to address external threats.
