Kazakhstan’s railway company to expand its logistics potential

The functional transformation of KTZh is aimed at creating transnational transit routes and regional trade hubs.

On October 10, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a working meeting to discuss the progress of the fulfilment of the instructions of the President of Kazakhstan to transform the National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZh) JSC into the national transport and logistics company, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

Chair of the National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Nurlan Sauranbaev presented a scenario of the future transformation. It should significantly step up logistics activities of the railway company. In particular, it is planned to create transnational transit corridors and regional trade and transshipment hubs.

As part of this work, KTZh will conduct multimodal expeditions using rail, sea and road transport and provide logistics services at transshipment hubs in foreign countries by expanding the network of terminals. This strategy is expected to give an impetus to create transnational routes, new logistics links and additional preferences for Kazakh businesses.

Moreover, the company will take further measures to improve its business efficiency. The Prime Minister approved the transformation plan and instructed to explore in detail the existing trade flows and elaborate the methods for developing regional trade hubs.
