New chess centre opens in Dushanbe

A chess centre opened in Dushanbe. The opening ceremony fell on the International Chess Day that has been observed on July 20 since 1966. It is celebrated in 178 countries around the world. The chess centre opened on the instructions of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon so that young people will practice this intellectual sport, the press office of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan reported.

The new chess club has the large and small halls and office rooms. It offers children ample opportunities to study chess in foreign languages. The new centre is expected to be a venue for chess tournaments.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Secretary-General of the Chess Federation of Tajikistan Ilkhom Yunusov told those present about the achievements of citizens of Tajikistan, in particular Farrukh Amonatov, who is one of the best chess players in the country and currently coaching the Indian chess team.

He noted that the national chess team is preparing for the International Chess Olympiad that will start on July 28 in India.
