Turkmenistan widely celebrates «Nowruz Bayramy», the national spring holiday. In the capital, on the bank of the Karakum River, in the foothills of the Ahal valley, the Turkmen traditional life was recreated. An amazing village was built specifically for that purpose. It was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan today» on March 21.
A large settlement was established in the town, yurts and trestle-beds were installed. There is an oriental bazaar there. The guests were greeted by young Turkmen citizens who read poems glorifying the coming of spring.
On the territory of the village, concerts and large costumed plays were held. The guests got a chance to learn how Turkmen people sprout wheat, cook the traditional dish Semeni (wheat grass), bake chorek (traditional bread) in tandyr (a cylindrical clay oven), make chal (beverage of fermented camel milk) and gatyk (traditional yogurt), irrigate fields with the help of chigir wheel (an ancient water-lifting device).
One of the main parts of the festivity was the performance of riders, bakhshies (musicians, singers, storytellers), acrobats and circus performers. In addition, a traditional ritual of swinging and a traditional Turkmen dance kushtdepdi were performed in the village.
