Serdar Berdimuhamedov meets with Emperor of Japan

Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan on behalf of President Berdimuhamedov congratulated the Japanese leader on the start of the Summer Olympic Games.

Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the Emperor of Japan Naruhito as part of his working trip to Tokyo. He conveyed the greetings from Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the leader of the Land of the Rising Sun. It was reported by the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on July 25.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on behalf of the leader of the Central Asian country, congratulated Naruhito on the start of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games. He also wished the people of Japan a happy and prosperous life.

Naruhito, in turn, expressed the hope that the Turkmen citizens and the leadership of the respective country will continue to live in peace and follow the path of prosperity.

On the same day, Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Hiroyuki Tsubai, the co-chairs of the Turkmen-Japanese committee on economic cooperation held a meeting. The event was attended by businessmen from the two countries. They emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the energy, agro-industrial spheres, as well as in the extraction of mineral resources and the chemical industry. The parties signed bilateral documents in the banking, financial and road transport spheres.

During the meeting with the head of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Kiyoshi Ejima, the focus was made on the prospects for cooperation in «green energy». The Turkmen side expressed interest in studying the Japanese experience of using renewable energy sources.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Japanese civil servants to attend the opening of a new gas turbine power plant in Lebap province, Turkmenistan, built by Sumitomo Corporation. Then the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the opening of the Olympic Games.

The next day, Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. They noted the importance of strengthening ties in the gas, chemical, transport and agricultural spheres, as well as the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for interstate cooperation in health care, education and innovation.
