The authorities of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan intend to create further conditions to facilitate the transit of goods and passengers between the Republics. This issue was taken up at the meeting between Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrahim and Deputy Minister of Transport of the neighbouring country Abdusamat Muminov, the press office of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan reported on May 31.

The officials focused on promoting transit transport linkages between the countries. They discussed options for improving transit transport infrastructure and highlighted the need to enhance the capacity of international transit operations through Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The emphasis was placed on the importance of increasing the use of road routes through the Republic of Tajikistan to the People’s Republic of China.

It was stated that Tajikistan would draw on the experience of the neighbouring country in building an aboveground subway during the visit of the Uzbekistan delegation to Dushanbe in March this year.

In the same month, the heads of the tourism committee of the two countries discussed the opening of a ‘green’ corridor to operate intercity bus service in the border areas.
