UK Foreign Secretary visits Tajikistan

He noted that he would soon become the first UK Foreign Secretary to visit all the Central Asian states and Mongolia.

UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron arrived in Tajikistan for an official visit to, inter alia, meet with President Emomali Rahmon. He intends to discuss the prospects of bilateral cooperation with the Tajik leader, Asia-Plus reported.

Cameron noted that the United Kingdom and Tajikistan share desire to expand international relations, especially amid global instability.

Before the trip, Cameron outlined a further course of action to promote cooperation with Central Asia. This will be an important step for the United Kingdom, since Cameron will be the first UK Foreign Secretary to visit all the five Central Asian states and Mongolia. He stated that his goal is to strengthen relations between the United Kingdom and these states.

Cameron met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Mukhriddin in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe. A Tajikistan-UK air services agreement was signed during the meeting, which is to pave the way for direct flights between Dushanbe and London.
