Astana generates surplus heat

Several new infrastructure facilities were put into operation.

In 2023, several new infrastructure facilities, which will play an important role in supplying heat and water to the city, were built and put into operation in Astana. According to the press office of the capital city, these are the South-East gas-fired power plant, the first stage of the Turan gas-fired power plant and the first stage of the CHPP-3 thermal power plant, as well as the NFS-3 drinking water plant.

Astana Akim Zhenis Kasymbek noted that there was a heat deficit of 432 Gcal in the past heating season. The completion of the construction of these 3 facilities has enabled the city to generate surplus heat in the current heating season.

For example, the first stage of CHPP-3 was completed in October, and all four boilers at this power plant are providing the city with 440 Gcal of thermal energy per hour. CHPP-3 is a source of heat for the Left Bank and new built-up areas.

The new power sources, including the South-East gas-fired power plant and the first stage of the Turan gas-fired power plant, were launched. They are the first gas-fired power plants in Kazakhstan and have a capacity of 700 Gcal/hour, almost twice the capacity of CHPP-3. The South-East gas-fired power plant ensures reliable heat supply to the residential complexes Bagystan and Alley Mynzhyldyk and the city districts on the left bank. The Turan gas-fired power plant provides heat to new built-up areas on the left bank of the city.
