Centres for counter-extremism in Belgium and Tajikistan forge contacts

The parties are preparing to sign a cooperation agreement.

On September 22, Prosecutor General of Tajikistan Rahmon Yusuf Akhmadzod made a working trip to Brussels, where he held meetings with the senior law enforcement officials of Belgium. These meetings focused on various aspects of legal cooperation between the two countries, the press office of the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

The main issues under discussion included the extradition of criminals, provision of legal assistance in criminal cases and transfer of sentenced persons.

Ahmadzod considered easing the stay of citizens of Tajikistan in Belgium during a meeting with the Head of the Immigration Office. The simplification of visa regime for citizens of the Republic with a special status was also discussed.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic and the Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (CUTA) of Belgium agreed to cooperate. The two centres will ramp up bilateral cooperation and exchange information: an agreement will be signed in the near future.
