On February 23, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a meeting with Almaty Akim Yerbolat Dosayev to discuss the development and seismic safety of the city, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.
Yerbolat Dosayev reported on the progress of the development of a new Almaty Master Plan. The document is designed for the period up to 2040. It is being developed in accordance with the President’s instructions, given at the meeting with Almaty residents in November last year.
The issues under discussion included seismic safety of buildings and structures in Almaty. Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev approved the measures proposed by the Almaty Akim to ensure seismic safety and the plan of seismic safety audit, which would be conducted in the second quarter of 2023. It will enable to update the data on urban objects.
As was reported, on February 23, at 6.30 a.m., Almaty residents felt the earthquake. Its epicentre was located in Tajikistan; an earthquake of about 2-3 magnitude occurred in Almaty.
