Turkmenistan intends to enhance cooperation with SCO Member States

The President noted that key areas of interaction include politics, security, economy, trade, investment, culture and humanitarian sphere.

On September 16, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov addressed the SCO Summit as a guest of honour. In his speech, he noted that Turkmenistan is ready to establish and expand cooperation with the SCO Member States in various areas, the Turkmenistan Today News Agency reported.

“Our country is ready to cooperate with the SCO Member States, build multifaceted, flexible forms and schemes of interaction in politics, security, economy, trade and investment, culture and humanitarian sphere,” the Turkmen leader said, addressing those present.

Touching upon multilateral cooperation on security, the President said Turkmenistan intends to establish closer political and diplomatic relations with the SCO Member States, as well as boost cooperation in countering terrorism, extremism, organized crime, drug trafficking and other illegal activities.

Touching upon multilateral cooperation in the energy sector, Berdimuhamedov proposed to start developing joint projects to diversify energy transit to meet the needs of countries and enter world markets.

Touching upon transport partnerships among the SCO Member States, the President informed his counterparts that Turkmenistan is ready to consider in practice providing its territory and infrastructure in the SCO’s interests to build transcontinental and regional transit routes for the supply of goods and services. In this context, he noted the importance of the Caspian route, the potential of which can be used to facilitate multilateral trade and economic cooperation.
