Shavkat Mirziyoyev meets with UN Under-Secretary-General

The President and the UN high-ranking official exchanged views on further possibilities for cooperation in the public and social sphere.

On September 14, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo in Samarkand, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The UN official arrived in Uzbekistan as part of a delegation to participate in the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The interlocutors exchanged views on enhancing Uzbekistan-UN cooperation and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals until 2030 in Uzbekistan and discussed issues of regional and international politics.

Rosemary DiCarlo conveyed greetings to the Uzbek leader from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who expressed support for the large-scale reforms taking place in the country as part of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy for 2022-2026.

The interlocutors noted the achievements of Uzbekistan within participation in work of the UN agencies. Uzbekistan put forward the initiative to adopt five resolutions of the UN General Assembly on regional cooperation, became a member the UN Human Rights Council and chaired the 32nd Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe and Central Asia.

Uzbekistan is planning to host the UNESCO World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education and the 25th Session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The leader of Uzbekistan and the UN Under-Secretary-General agreed to boost cooperation in addressing the environmental impacts of the Aral Sea disaster, assist in post-conflict peacebuilding in Afghanistan and continue to promote sustainable development projects in the Central Asian region.
