Deputy Minister for Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Vafayev met with CEO of Masdar Mohamed Al Ramahi during his visit to the United Arab Emirates, the press office of the Ministry reported.
The Deputy Minister arrived in the UAE leading the delegation of ministry officials. The talks focused on boosting cooperation in the power sector, in particular the renewable energy industry.
The UAE company Masdar is implementing a number of projects of power plants using renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan. In August last year, a 100MW solar photovoltaic power plant was put into operation in Navoi Region.
As part of Uzbekistan-Masdar cooperation, it is planned to build a power plant using renewable energy sources and 500MW wind power plant in Navoi Region this summer and the photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 897 MW will start in Surkhandarya, Jizzakh and Samarkand Regions in December.
The new power plants will reduce the dependence of Uzbekistan’s energy sector on gas and coal and increase the overall generation of eco-friendly energy to 25%.
