Kazakhstan and EBRD continue to implement joint projects

Alikhan Smailov confirmed that the banking sector has a significant capital reserve to maintain stability.

On April 29, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held remote talks with EBRD’s Vice President of Banking Alain Pilloux. The interlocutors discussed the current state and stages of further cooperation between Kazakhstan’s banking sector and the international institution, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The Prime Minister briefed the interlocutor on the measures being taken to maintain confidence in the national currency and achieve financial stability. This work is being actively done by the Central Bank and the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market.

The Prime Minister noted that Kazakhstan’s banking sector has a significant capital reserve, which contributes to the stability of financial institutions, despite current challenges, as illustrated by the increase in the assets of banks by 148 billion tenge over the year that reached 37.8 trillion.

In conclusion, the interlocutors agreed to continue to interact actively on ongoing projects and other relevant issues.

The press office reported that in 2021, the EBRD’s investments in Kazakhstan amounted to 558 million EUR. 18 projects were launched, among which about 40% promote the transition to a green economy.
