Uzbek leader chairs meeting on development prospects of some economic sectors

The President focuses on the current state and development prospects of the aviation sector and the transformation of state-owned enterprises.

On March 14, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting via videoconference on key aspects of Uzbekistan’s economic development and the transformation of state-owned enterprises, the press office of the President reports.

The Uzbek leader focused on the slow pace of efficiency improvements at 25 state-owned enterprises and highlighted the need to suspend state support of unprofitable enterprises that do not meet modern requirements.

Discussing the current situation in the air transport sector, the participants specified the steps to be taken to increase transit passenger traffic, simplify issuance of charter landing permits and turn domestic airports into major international transport hubs. The President recommended paying special attention to maintaining ticket prices at the current level.

When discussing Uzbekistan’s economic development in the first quarter of the year, the participants considered the steps to be taken to provide social support and increase incomes of the population, put new enterprises into operation and create new jobs.

The President instructed the high-ranking officials and representatives of local governments to avoid economically unjustified projects and keep under control the implementation of social programmes.
