EU Special Representative meets with Deputy Prime Ministers of Turkmenistan

Peter Burian and the officials discussed the cooperation in trade, energy, security, transport, ecology.

On June 16, EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian met with Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Supreme Control Chamber Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in Ashgabat. The parties discussed further cooperation, as reported by the press office of the MFA.

Burian and Berdimuhamedov paid special attention to the prospects for expanding partnerships in security, energy, transport, and ecology. The Deputy Prime Minister said that Ashgabat is interested in the know-how of foreign specialists in digitalization of the economy.

The emphasis was also placed on the importance of strengthening ties in the trade, economy, culture and humanitarian sphere.

Burian and Meredov attached special importance to the need to implement specific plans and programs within the EU Strategy for Central Asia. The parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the green economy, alternative energy, development of rural regions, support of entrepreneurship.

The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of supporting efforts of Turkmenistan aimed at joining the WTO. The emphasis was also placed on the need to sell Turkmen energy resources in the European markets.
