EBRD First Vice President comments on positive impact of reforms in Uzbekistan

The EBRD is currently supporting the implementation and development of 21 projects worth US$ 1.8 billion in Uzbekistan’s energy, infrastructure and construction sectors.

On June 7, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held talks with EBRD First Vice President Jurgen Rigterink. They discussed the current state and prospects for bilateral cooperation. The EBRD is currently supporting the implementation and development of 21 projects worth US$ 1.8 billion in Uzbekistan’s energy, infrastructure and construction sectors, the press office of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade reports.

The First Vice President highly evaluated positive impact of on-going large-scale transformations in the country and expressed readiness to support actively reforms in the Republic through investing and providing technical assistance.

The interlocutors discussed the aspects of interaction in the banking sector: the European Bank would continue to provide analytical and technical assistance in strengthening Uzbekistan’s financial sector, as well as restructuring and privatizing state-owned banks.

The meeting concluded with signing a mandate letter to implement the programme on the purchase of electric buses for Samarkand worth US$ 20 million and a memorandum of understanding under the EBRD Green Cities programme.
