Turkmenistan plans to buy Afghan marble

The topic was raised within the extended political consultations between the delegations of the countries in Herat.

A high-ranking delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov arrived in Herat on a working visit on June 5. The officials and their Afghan colleagues held extended political consultations. They discussed export of Afghan marble to Ashgabat, as reported by the press office of the MFA of IRA.

Kabul provided information on the $200 billion worth of various resources and rare stones. The state servants marked that export in this direction is an important factor of expanding relations between countries in trade.

The Turkmen delegation spoke about the requirement of Ashgabat for marble due the construction of new cities. The officials expressed full readiness to procure the stone in Afghanistan. Meredov and Foreign Minister of IRA Mohammad Hanif Atmar agreed to sign an agreement on the corresponding export.

The ministers noted the importance of accelerating the implementation of the Turgundi-Herat railway project. Particular attention was paid to the launch of the construction of a gas pipeline from the Turkmen-Afghan border to Herat in the second half of this year. Emphasis was also placed on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan transmission line and the potential of the Lapis Lazuli international transport corridor.

It must be added that at the beginning of 2021, Ashgabat and Kabul launched the Akina-Andkhoy railway line and the Kerki-Shibergan power line.
