Tajikistan and Pakistan sign 12 cooperation agreements

These documents were signed during the official visit of President Emomali Rahmon to Islamabad.

On June 2, the leader of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon arrived in Pakistan for an official visit.  A ceremony of signing 12 cooperation agreements took place after the meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

6 aircrafts of the Pakistan Air Force escorted the Rahmon’s plane upon his arrival in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The airport was decorated with the portraits of the two leaders and banners.

The documents include the agreements and memoranda of cooperation in such fields as science and education, trade and economy, corruption control, emergency prevention and response, culture, art and transnational road transportation. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and Pakistan signed the Programme of Cooperation.

Emomali Rahmon and Imran Khan focused on increasing investment in the projects in Tajikistan, the importance of the timely implementation of the CASA-1000 Project and access of Tajikistan to the seaports of Karachi and Gwadar through creating transit transport corridors.

The emphasis was placed on creating joint ventures in the free economic zones of Tajikistan that would produce food commodities. The parties also highlighted the need to expand cooperation in countering terrorism and illicit drug trafficking and enhance contacts in the pharmaceutical and agricultural industries.
