Berdimuhamedov and head of SOCAR discuss development of Dostluk field

Turkmen leader noted that cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan would turn the Caspian Sea into a zone of peace and good neighborliness.

On May 12, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held an official meeting with the head of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev. The parties discussed the main vectors of interaction within the development of hydrocarbon resources in the Caspian Sea, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

Special attention was paid to the development of the largest Dostluk field. The emphasis was also placed on the need to intensify cooperation in the fuel and energy complex.

The parties noted the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding between the governments of the countries on joint exploration and development of hydrocarbon resources of the above field, signed on January 21.

Berdimuhamedov and Abdullayev underlined that this document would attract large foreign investments, strengthen the economies of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, create new jobs and improve the quality of life of citizens.

The Turkmen leader said that the corresponding partnership would also turn the Caspian Sea into a zone of peace and good-neighborliness.

It should mentioned be that the President of SOCAR arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the International Forum for Attracting Foreign Investments. As part of his speech at the event, he noted that the company was ready to share with colleagues from Turkmenistan the possibilities of the Southern Gas Corridor and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline for transporting the richest Turkmen hydrocarbon resources to international markets.
