Unique hydro facility to be built at foot of Kopetdag

Its purpose is to hold back mudflows from the mountains and collect them in a large reservoir for irrigation of fields.

A unique hydro-facility will be built at the foot of the large Kopetdag mountain system in Turkmenistan. The structure will hold back mudflows from the mountains and collect them in a large reservoir for further irrigation of fields. It was reported by the press office of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs on May 4.

A large water intake facility will be built by Miwe OJSC in the Kaakhka etrap, Ahal province. According to representatives of the joint-stock company, the corresponding facility will, on the one hand, protect residential buildings against mudflows, and on the other hand, make a significant contribution to the cultivation of agricultural crops.

This unique project has no analogues. The construction of the structure is divided into 4 stages. At the moment, the first phase of the process has been finished.

Businessmen will be able to store up to 6.5 million cubic meters of water in the reservoir. It will reduce the use of other sources for irrigation of fields, in particular, water of the Amudarya River.

After putting the facility into operation, it is planned to create gardens, grow fruit and walnut trees on the territory of economic communities. Irrigation will be carried out in automatic mode. In addition, it is also planned to build a greenhouse for growing bananas and water storage tanks on the territory allocated for Miwe OJSC.

It must be added that on May 4, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov got acquainted with the production activities of the above-mentioned joint-stock company and its engineering and technical infrastructure. During the visit to the Ahal province, he touched upon the issues of rational water use in the agro-industrial complex.
