The incident happened at a gas station in Ispechak microdistrict of Sino district.
On May 1 at 6:30 pm, a gas station exploded in the west of the capital of Tajikistan. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said the cause of the explosion was the failure to comply with general fire safety rules and regulations, the press office of the Ministry reported.
This gas station is located in Ispechak microdistrict of Sino district. A fire broke out and rapidly grew to cover an area of 90 square metres. When the gas station exploded, it contained 60 tonnes of fuel.
Spokeswoman for the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence Umeda Yusufi reported that 29 people had been injured as a result of the explosion. She said 5 people were in serious condition. The gas station owner, who suffered serious burns to over 75% of his body, was admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition.
The houses near the site of the powerful explosion were badly damaged. Fire crews spent about 1.5 hours working to extinguish the blaze. This case is still under investigation.
