Uzbekistan and World Bank to implement projects worth US$ 1.7 billion

The format for further interaction in the development of a new Partnership Programme between the World Bank and the Republic for 2022-2026 was identified.

On April 29, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov held an online meeting with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde. The parties identified the format for further interaction in the development of a new Partnership Programme between the World Bank and the Republic for 2022-2026 and agreed to accelerate the implementation of joint projects worth US$ 1.7 billion, the Ministry reported on its website.

Umurzakov sincerely thanked the World Bank President for providing technical assistance in developing the strategy of attracting foreign direct investment for the period until 2030. This document is to identify practical steps to boost  FDI inflows into Uzbekistan’s basic industries. The strategy will be implemented in 3 stages.

The parties noted with satisfaction that partnerships in implementing large-scale social and economic development projects in the Republic was developing at a robust pace. In 2020, the World Bank approved funding for six projects at a total cost of approximately US$ 1.6 billion in such fields as water supply, agricultural industry, innovative development, market reforms and the fight against coronavirus.

Anna Bjerde said she intended to visit Uzbekistan together with a WB delegation this May. In this regard, the parties agreed to intensify interactions on all aspects of bilateral partnerships to fill the agenda of the upcoming visit with practical content.
