Tajikistan demands that Russia reduce airfare

Otherwise measures would be taken to suspend charter flights, Director at the Civil Aviation Agency of the Republic of Tajikistan Ikrom Subkhonzoda said.

On April 22, Director at the Civil Aviation Agency of the Republic of Tajikistan Ikrom Subkhonzoda held an emergency meeting with Transport Prosecutor Saidmurad Kodirzoda and the representatives of the Russian airlines – Ural Airlines, UTair, Siberia and North Wind to discuss high airline ticket prices, the ASIA-Plus News Agency reports.

Subkhonzoda demanded that these Russian airlines lower airline ticket prices for the flights from Tajikistan to Russia within two days. He said the current situation forced citizens to take bank loans, which had a negative impact on their financial status.

Ikrom Subkhonzoda said the aviation authorities of the Republic of Tajikistan would have to suspend charter flights if its demand was ignored and no actions were taken.

As was reported, the countries resumed direct flights on April 1. All tickets have been sold out until the summer. The officially airline ticket price for the Dushanbe-Moscow-Dushanbe flight is US$ 500, however according to the social networks, this price reaches 15,000 somoni (about US$ 1,316).

Earlier, Subkhonzoda reported that the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan intended to tighten controls over airline ticket prices.
