He said these figure counts were overestimated.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia Aleksandr Gorovoy urged the representatives of the CIS member states to hold meetings with illegal immigrants in order to prevent them from deporting from the Russian Federation. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 247,000 citizens of Tajikistan are living unlawfully in the country.

Mirzoyev said these included the citizens of the Republic who had arrived in Russia over the past 5, 10 or even 15 years. Many of them have lost their documents, received new ones and returned home, but they remained in the databases of the Russian Federation. Their previous documents f have expired, which made these citizens illegal migrants.

Others, who were working legally, had committed one or two administrative violations, the Minister added. The official said a number of citizens of Tajikistan were overdue to pay for their work permit because of a shortage of money.

The Head of the representative office of the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of Tajikistan in Russia said information campaigns were being conducted among migrants.
