China to build tunnels and roads in Tajikistan

The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan and a Chinese company signed a contract.

Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim and an authorized representative of Hunan Road & Bridge Construction Group Co., Ltd. signed a contract for the first stage of the Obigarm-Nurobod highway project, the press office of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reports.

The first project stage provides for the construction of a 30-km road section between 0 + 00 km and 30 + 217 km. The project will be implemented at three stages. It provides for the construction of 30.2 kilometres of roadway between the settlements Obigarm and Tagikamar, 2 tunnels with a length of 1.6 kilometres and 1.7 kilometres and 5 bridges and the reconstruction of the old bridge.

Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim focused on enhancing Tajikistan-China cooperation in various areas and said bilateral cooperation would continue in the future.

The representative of the Chinese company assured the Tajik side that construction work on the highway would be conducted a timely and proper manner.

US$ 178.1 million are allocated to the project. Of these, the sources of financing are: US$ 110 million – a grant from the Asian Development Bank; US$ 40 million – OPEC Fund debt and US$ 28.1 million – the share of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
