Turkmenistan takes part in ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development

Minister of Finance and Economy Serdarov spoke about measures on supporting the national economy and improving access to medical services.

On April 12, the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the online forum of the UN Economic and Social Council on Financing for Development. The Minister of Finance and Economy Muhametgeldy Serdarov spoke about the main directions of the state activities in support of the national economy, as reported by the press office of the government agency.

The official spoke at the meeting «Leaving no one behind: Financing Sustainable Recovery from COVID-19 in LLDCs».

He noted that Turkmenistan has expanded the export of non-hydrocarbon products. According to him, local markets are full of domestic products, and new modern production facilities are built throughout the state. Serdarov added that the country successfully implements national and international projects, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.

The emphasis was placed on improving access to medical services for the citizens. The minister said that the government pays special attention to social protection, protection of jobs and businesses.

He drew attention to the fact that in July last year, a national program aimed at reducing the impact of the global crisis on the national economy and the progressive development of the economic sphere for 2020-2021 was adopted in Turkmenistan.

In addition, in August 2020, the local authorities approved 6 UNECE transport conventions. Ashgabat joined the international convention on simplification and harmonization of customs procedures. Last year, Turkmenistan became an observer at the WTO, added the official.
