Russia delivers humanitarian aid to Turkmenistan

The plane of the MChS of the Russian Federation delivered 12 tons of medical products to Ashgabat.

The government of the Russian Federation instructed the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief to deliver humanitarian aid to the capital of Turkmenistan on April 1 in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, as reported by the press office of MChS.

An IL-76 plane delivered 12 tons of medical products to Ashgabat. The cargo included medicines, masks, medical equipment, protective clothing. The head of MFA of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov thanked the Russian authorities for the assistance during negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

According to the Turkmen official, appropriate medical products will help the Central Asian country in the fight against pandemic. He also expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the previously delivered 186 thousand test systems (120 thousand of them were a part of a humanitarian aid).

It must be added that in May 2020, the authorities of Turkmenistan donated food, textile, construction and industrial products to Russia free of charge. In November last year, almost 1 million dollars worth of humanitarian aid was delivered to Astrakhan from Ashgabat.

Turkmenistan, as of April 1, hasn’t reported any cases of COVID-19.
