Uzbekistan hosts border talks

Abdulla Aripov and Kamchybek Tashiev will hold talks in Tashkent on March 24-25.

Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, Lieutenant General Kamchybek Tashiev and Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov will hold border talks in Tashkent on March 24-25, the website of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic reports.

On March 22, Kamchybek Tashiev arrived in Tashkent to hold talks on the delimitation of border.

About 15% of the territory between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have not been delimited or demarcated so far. Disputed territory often becomes a conflict zone for citizens of border areas. In this regard, the meeting will focus on the delimitation and demarcation of some sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border.

As was reported, the initiative to solve this problem was put forward at the meeting between the leaders of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan during Sadyr Japarov’s visit to Uzbekistan on March 11-12 this year. The leaders of the two states agreed to intensify joint efforts to address this issue and end a border dispute as soon as possible.
