Mirziyoyev has pardoned 140 persons on the eve of Nowruz

The people pardoned by the President include 12 foreign citizens, 9 men aged over 60, 13 women and 14 persons who had been involved in the activities of banned organisations.

On March 19, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Decree authorising to pardon 140 persons to mark the International Nowruz Day, including 12 foreign citizens, 9 men aged over 60, 13 women and 14 persons who had been involved in the activities of banned organisations, the UZA State News Agency reports.

The people pardoned by the President have sincerely repented of their crime and promised that they would take the path of redemption.

4 persons were released from serving their sentences, 69 persons were released on parole and 8 persons had their sentences commuted.

With the view to effectively implementing the Decree, Mirziyoyev instructed the high-ranking officials and organisations to ensure that the pardoned persons would return to their families and relatives. He also noted that they should receive assistance in socialising, get involved in social activities, live a healthy lifestyle and take a worthy place in society.
